Highgate Poets to Perform Saturday 2nd March

The Enfield Poets exist to give a platform to local poets with a chance to try out their work in front of a friendly and sympathetic audience, and to enjoy listening to and learning from guest poets.

In that spirit, they will be hosting five members of Highgate Poets on Saturday 2nd March.

If you would like to hear work from Anna Meryt, Milverton Wallace, Jack Cooper, Sal Consoli, and Michael Pierce, head to Thomas Hardy House, 39 London Road, Enfield. Performances start at 7:30pm. Admission is £3.50, or £2.50 for Concessions.

We hope to see you there!

Anna Meryt has been a published poet for many years and has two poetry collections: Dolly Mix (2014) and Heart Broke (2013). She is the current facilitator of Highgate Poets. Anna co-edited the Highgate Poets’ Anthology Naming the Clouds (2017). She has published a memoir (2015) and a non-fiction book for writers (2018).

Milverton Wallace is a former journalist, editor, university lecturer, hackathon organiser, co-founder of a kids’ coding club, and poet.

Jack Cooper works in neuroscience research, using fruit flies to understand how the brain generates complex behaviours. He was shortlisted for the New Poets’ Prize (2018), and longlisted for the National Poetry Competition (2017).

Sal Consoli is a researcher of Applied Linguists at the University of Warwick. He is constantly engaged with poetry work with the Brum Stanza group, and is now using poetry as part of his research in social services.

Michael Pierce is a Director of a Housing Trust and Assistant Principal of a College of Further Education. Currently he teaches Transcendental Meditation. Michael is the author of Bland Ambition and Other Poems (David Paul Press).

Performance Success for Highgate Poets

Highgate Poets were invited to perform by Ruth O’Callaghan for Lumen in King’s Cross on Tuesday 19th June. Ruth was away, but we were presented by Belinda Singleton in her stead, to a small but appreciative audience.
Interesting and exciting poetry from Sal Consoli, Christina Juan, Valentina Kotsuba, Anna Meryt, and Milverton Wallace. What a diverse group we are with British poets who originated from Spain, the Philippines, Russia, Wales and Jamaica! All performances were to a high standard.

On Friday 22nd June, several Highgate Poets also took part in a fantastic evening of poetry for the Enfield Literary Festival at The Dugdale Centre, Enfield, organised by Martin Russo and Katherine Gallagher.

THE WORD DISTILLERY POETS 2014 LONDON TOUR

A group of poets from West Wales is coming up to London to perform at several venues in October 2014. They made contact with Highgate Poets and we have joined forces for a night of poetry which starts and ends with extracts from Dylan Thomas’s work.

This the centenary year of his death, and indeed October 27th would have been his birthday. Their spokesperson is Nigel Humphries and he and Anna Meryt (of Highgate Poets, who is also Welsh) will not only present some of their own work, but also a few extracts from the work of Dylan Thomas.

Eight members of Highgate Poets in total are reading with a group from Aberystwyth, the Word Distillery Poets, at the London Welsh Centre:

Address: 157-163 Gray’s Inn Road, London WC1X 8UE.

The centre is opposite the Eastman Dental Hospital and is about a 10/15 minute walk down Gray’s Inn Road. Or you can take the 45 or 46 bus from outside Kings Cross Station [Euston Road exit] and get off at Eastman Hospital stop.

The event starts at 7.00 pm.
